The Limitations Of A Family Of 5

Hello readers,

Today I thought I would blog regarding the limitations you face as a family of 5 in a world that classes a family as consisting of 4 people only.  When you cook most sauces serve 4 (this can be gotten around by making yur own sauces which we do) however today I am facing a challenge to find over night accomodation for one night for a family of 5.  Can you get a room that sleeps 5 in the UK?  Can you hell especially not one on a budget.  This leaves me with a sticky predicament to get round.  I need a family room (that sleeps 5, as my children are not old enough to sleep in a hotel room on their own) in between Birmingham and Bristol and it isn't to cost the earth.  I'm currently scouring the internet.  Family tickets for attractions are for 4 people, same with competition wins always for 4 people.  To the people that decides that a family consists of 4 people I'd like to say, you are wrong the majority of families I know consist of 5 people and you do not cater for us therefore you are loosing custom as we shall be on plan B.

Anyway rant over lol i'm off to scour the internet for bargains.

Spent Up A Frugal Half Term

Hiya everyone,

The kids are off on half term this week and due to having to find money for kids parties (6 invites in 6 weeks for one child), Enterprise Day at school (bring your purse) one child becoming a sworn in Brownie (Uniform £50, Handbook £4 and hankered over Brownie box £4) plus the usual subs for Brownies and Rainbows over the last month has left us with no money to go out and spend on half term, so what are we going to do?

Well we have frugal plans, We need a mammoth trying on session for all children to see what fits and what doesn't (considering putting summer clothes in wardrobes instead of winter ones lets hope the weather agrees with my choice).

My eldest daughter Princess has plans to go round to play and have lunch at her school friends house which she is VERY excited about.  Peaches needs to go and choose some new glasses due to a change in prescription so off to town we go plus probably a quick dash to the library.

The rest of the time will either be spent in the park if it's nice or finding things to do at home if it isn't.  No money will be spent this week except on the food shop, as for me I have so many things to make for my online shop which I shall be making and adding soon check out my shop here (I post world wide check out the shop for prices)

I also have the porch to paint i'm nearly finished now (thank goodness) all I need is more hours in the day really because 24 just isn't enough and I never stop.

So readers who else is on half term and what do you have planned?

Lets hope the sun shines

Eurovision and Cupcakes

Me and J spent our Saturday night watching Eurovision and eating homemade Cupcakes (because thats how we roll) both shown in the picture above.

Did anyone else watch Eurovision?  Do you think the right country won?

I thought Norway would win as their song stuck in my head.

Slow Saturday

Good Morning

Today is Saturday and I am shattered after being up since 5am with Peaches (who doesn't do sleep and never has) I'm hoping for a simple slow Saturday although that isn't going to happen as I have a shoe cupboard to paint and woodwork in the porch, plus Peaches has a party to go to this afternoon so we are off to soft play whilst she is there with Pixie and Princess.  Exhausted is definatley how I feel today.

Decorating Update

I started decorating the porch back in February but then it got cold, then we had illness ect so it got put on hold, this is now the project to get finished.  However when you paint one room the others start to look shabby and I hope to give the living room and kitchen a lick of paint too and don't even get me started on the bathroom haha.  I need some energy and some more hrs in my day please.

Hope you all have a fab weekend

Pixie Sunhat Problem Fixed For Pennies

Frugal fixing is affoot today at Dawn's house.  My youngest daughter Pixie  has a new sunhat, however whenever the wind blows it takes her hat with it.
Time for mummy to do a frugal fix.  I went to the local market and bought some pink elastic, measured how much i would need, cut it and then sewed it onto Pixies's hat.  Now her hat is safe and secure.

The glamorous assistant who was watching Cbeebies at the time of the photographs lol

The hat with elastic attatched.

Another Waste Of Government Money

In a time when the country is in true financial difficulty we all need to tighten our belts and budget, therefore we need to cut unnecessary spending.  (This is the message we receive from government).  However I think the government could do with taking this advice themselves as today i received this:

This was delivered by the postman to everyones house in the street and probably many other streets in the borough.  The problem here being lack of research, as in this area there are no Council or Housing Association properties and therefore an expensive mailshot in many a badly targeted household will end up in the bin.  This is a huge waste of money.

Surely it would be better to use one of their many databases to target only the areas that have Council or Housing Association Tennants rather than wasting time, energy, money, resources and the poor postman's back by sending these to an area consisting of home owners.

It really is laughable!

From small frugal savings money grows, collects and then can be paid off the debt, the government need to sort their own house out before they tell everyone else how to live, you lead by example.

Monday Angst....The Day The Hoover Died

Good morning everyone

Today started off as a good day I woke to find the baby had spend another full night in her own bed (2nd time in nearly three years).  We all got to school on time, the bus turned up and Pixie walked.  I get home the washer is filled and put on the dry washing carried upstairs ready to be put away.

I then get out the hoover to find a loverly noise (like a mouse desperate to escape and a burning smell)  the hoover is very poorly dear readers, never fear there is light at the end of a long tunnel, I rang Dyson to find they have an anytime appointment free today (yes I thought)  I just hope it can be fixed it's part of the family.

So Monday angst here crunching carpets, a dead hoover and somebody coming round to my house to fix it when my house is a state (mainly the carpets) not impressed.  Lets just hope the week gets better.

Cheats Fudge

This fudge is delicious and has been adapted from Nigella express "Chocolate Pistachio fudge".

Double Chocolate and Malteaser Fudge

300g Dark Chocolate (chopped)
80g Milk Chocolate (we used Easter egg) (chopped)
1x 397g Can of Condensed Milk
30g Butter (soft buttery margarine)
Pinch of Salt
120g Malteasers (attacked with a rolling pin to create big bits and little bits)

1.  Put chopped chocolate, condensed milk butter and salt into a large heavy based pan and put on a low heat, stir to melt.

2.Add bashed Malteasers to the chocolate and give it a good stir.

3. Pour into a tin (mine is an 8"x 10" tin) smooth the top.

4. Let the fudge cool and refrigerate to set.

5. Once set cut up into small pieces, this can be kept in the freezer (no defrosting need eat straight from freezer).

Sorry no pics of this one but try it it is delicious.

well hello, staycation and family fun for free.

After a long bank holiday weekend i'm slowly getting back into the swing of normal life, the kids back in school and nursery and J is back in work, it is too quiet here and i'm missing them all.  Here are some photos we took yesturday as we went on a little staycation of our own on a beautiful bank holiday monday.

In the car already to go.

At the park, off to feed the ducks (the dcks were having none of it though so we fed the pidgeons instead.

Me and me girls.

Kids and daddy on the slide.

Checking out the flowers.

Here they are sat in front of a Police car turning on the sirens at a family fun day event we found.

We had a fab day loving the sunshine and Pixie walked everywhere not once asking to be carried, shes growing up that one.  What the hell will I do when I
don't need a pushchair for her, where will I put the bags?  Answers on a postcard please lol.

So if you know anyone who is getting married and needs to buy wedding jewellery feel free to check out my work and ask for custom orders we can incorporate most colours, finishes and looks.

Hope your having a sunny Wednesday where you are too.
